Uses a reliable Davis Vantage Pro 2 Wireless weather station to gather weather data which has been collecting weather data since March 2006. The station consists of a rain gauge and temperature sensor attached to a pole outside and an anemometer mounter on the chimney above the house. The data collected is transmitted wirelessly to a base station in the house. The base station then sends that data to a program called Cumulus which takes and uploads the data to various internet websites including the National Weather Service. Picture L-R: Rotary President-Elect Simon Brighenti. April Cantell, Meghan Rothschild and Rotary President Stella Kalamarakis.
Our speakers today were Meghan Rothschild from the Western Mass Food Bank and April Cantell, President of the local Kiwanis Club.
Meghan explained how locally grown food products and the cooperation of area food stores ALL contributed in the distribution of emergency food supplies to the greater Springfield area. The four counties were assessed for need and then distribution was coordinated with the food stores. A contribution of $1 equals a $13 value in distribution. (A virtual food drive.)
April spoke of Kiwanis's humanitarian effort in sheltering of the homeless. One of the main goals of Kiwanis is elimination of IDD - Iodine Deficiency Disease. Kiwanis means to trade, to share and
to build.
